WHAT

In 2020 there were approximately 281 million international migrants. Whatever the reason for leaving one’s home country, building a home in an unfamiliar land is challenging. How might we help people cope with the feelings of exploring new territories? How can we explore the act of migrating to learn from it?

HOW

Plafond is a magazine dedicated to exploring these stories worldwide, drawing parallels between cities of origin and cities of destination. The magazine represents diversity, using different typographies in its titles, while maintaining visual coherence.

plafond

noun

1: a ceiling usually of elaborate design formed by the underside of a floor.

Plafond, the title of the magazine, symbolizes a roof, a house, or a home that we all strive to build over our heads when we migrate to an unfamiliar destination.

Drawing Parallels

The first edition of Plafond draws a comparison between Bogotá and Vancouver.

The Back

The back of Plafond is a compilation of some of the pictures displayed throughout the magazine, with two overlapping maps in the middle. In this case, the maps are the two cities compared in this edition: Bogota and Vancouver.

Green House

Yellow Door

This magazine's insert, Green House Yellow Door, tells the story of a particular person who migrated to another country in a more intimate and personal way.
